Sodium formate (Formic acid sodium salt)also known as sodium formate, the crystal contains two crystal water, so it is also known as sodium dihydrate, sodium dihydrate, sodium dihydrate formateate. Sodium formate is one of the simplest organic carboxylate, white crystal or powder, slightly formic acid odor. Slightly deliquable and hygroscopic. Soluble in about 1.3 parts of water and glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol, octanol, insoluble in ether. Its aqueous solution is alkaline. When heated, sodium formate breaks down into hydrogen and sodium oxalate, which then forms sodium carbonate. Sodium formate is mainly used in the production of insurance powder, oxalic acid and formic acid. In the leather industry, it is used as a camouflage acid in the chromium tannery process, as a catalyst and stabilizing synthetic agent, and as a reducing agent in the printing and dyeing industry.
